MATSU [MAH-TSOO]

About

MATSU

[mah-tsoo]

Japanese: pine tree.

Quiet essentials shaped by minimalist philosophy and made in Estonia in small batches.

Established in Tallinn in 2023

MATSU means pine tree in Japanese: strength, stillness and a close connection with nature.

About

A quiet space of clarity, presence and return to self.

The pine forest is a place of grounding for me and an ongoing source of clarity for MATSU.

The name MATSU — Japanese for pine tree reflects this connection to nature and my interest in Japanese minimalism: simplicity, restraint and attention to what is essential.

The idea began with a personal search for everyday essentials that felt like a natural continuation of the person wearing them.

That search became a quiet language of form, colour and texture — a way of communicating with the world without saying too much.

Designed in Tallinn. Made locally.

Philosophy

Rooted in authenticity and the wabi-sabi appreciation of imperfection, MATSU creates quiet garments for everyday life.

MATSU speaks through form, colour and texture — revealing the beauty of simplicity and the quiet harmony between body, garment and nature.

Materials

Texture carries the feeling of the garment.

We choose fabrics for their weight, softness and quiet structure — the way they fall, move and return to the body.

Our fabrics are developed by individual request with a local manufacturer in Estonia and enzyme-prewashed for a soft texture, lived-in feel and lasting wear.

Soft, breathable and pleasant against the skin, they are dyed and finished without heavy metals or allergenic disperse dyes. Recycled content helps reduce the use of virgin resources, while cotton keeps the fabric grounded, comfortable and easy to wear.

Small batches. Thoughtful fibers. No noise.
